Starting with a very clean 3100, they gave it a hot-rod-style makeover with a louvered hood and a satin finish designed to look weathered and old.

Cool pro-built patina truck. 350/350, power steering, power disc brakes, independent front suspension. Very clean and solid, just intentionally weathered. Runs and drives great, still works as a truck. Get in and be amazed by how much fun you have!

Yep, it’s got lots of patina, but it’s purely intentional. The guys at Bonnell’s obviously built this for themselves and were going for the shop-worn look and largely succeeded. Starting with a very clean 3100, they gave it a hot-rod-style makeover with a louvered hood and a satin finish designed to look weathered and old. The effect is convincing and the truck just looks right. Sure, not everyone likes the weathered look, but if you do, this truck nails it. But up close, you’ll see that the sheetmetal underneath is quite straight, rust isn’t an issue even in the cab corners, and it fits together rather well. That’s a pretty convincing illusion—quality work masquerading as time and age. A few hand-drawn pinstripes add to the vintage hot rod vibe, and there’s really no point in owning an old pickup without a logo on the door. Even the wood in the bed is appropriately weathered, probably original stuff that suggests this truck has been well-kept most of its life. There’s no fussy chrome to maintain and with a 12-volt electrical system, headlights and taillights are nice and bright. And the stance is just about ideal—this truck looks awesome!

The “less is more” theme continues inside where it’s outfitted with a cloth bench seat from a late-model truck. It’s comfortable and with OEM fabric, durable, making it easy to spend some time behind the wheel. The wheel is an aftermarket 3-spoke unit that looks right and sits on top of a tilt column. The floor is covered with a rubber mat, and underneath there’s plenty of insulation, making this truck comfortable under most conditions. Factory gauges are still in place, with the fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, and temperature gauge still monitoring the engine’s vitals, but unfortunately the speedometer seems to be stuck at 80 MPH. There’s also a modern tach tucked under the dash and a digital AM/FM/cassette head unit in the original radio’s location at the top of the center stack. Even the original Chevrolet heater is still in place under the dash. Ultimately, it’s exactly what the exterior promises—a basic pickup truck experience with a few modern updates.

Power comes from a 350 cubic inch V8, which is a nice fit in the 3100’s engine bay. It’s dressed in proper Chevy Orange and is topped by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, keeping to basics. It also includes power steering and power disc brakes, thanks to a custom front clip from a late-model, as well as a giant radiator to keep it cool. The electrical system is, of course, 12-volts and includes a fresh alternator and battery. Exhaust duties are handled by stock manifolds, which help control noise and heat better than headers, and it has a great V8 soundtrack thanks to a dual exhaust system. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic with crisp shifts and no hesitation, all feeding a 10-bolt rear end with what feel like 3.08 or 3.23 gears inside. The front suspension is independent so it rides and handles better than any stock 3100 and while it’s not detailed or shiny, it’s solid with no issues and will always be easy to maintain. Even the emergency brake works! 17-inch Torque Thrust wheels look great with the lowered stance and carry staggered 215/50/17 front and 255/50/17 rear performance radials.

We love this truck. It’s got the right look, great performance, bulletproof reliability, and just enough attitude to attract a lot of attention. Best of all, that low-maintenance demeanor makes it easy to live with. Drive it, show it, put it to work, it’s happy to do it all. That’s what makes old trucks so cool. Call today!
