This extremely well done Impala hardtop has just the right look thanks to the brilliant Viper Red paint job and the addition of the engine-turned SS trim.

Beautiful 1963 Chevrolet Impala. Viper red with custom black SS interior. Great-running 350 cubic inch V8 with automatic. Power steering and power disc brakes. Upgraded stereo. A very attractive Impala hardtop with lots of upgrades!

It’s probably fair to call the 1963 Chevrolet Impala iconic—high style combined with plenty of firepower make these cars popular even six decades later. This extremely well done Impala hardtop has just the right look thanks to the brilliant Viper Red paint job and the addition of the engine-turned SS trim. Whomever did the bodywork was at the top of his game, because this beautiful red hardtop has even gaps, great panel alignment, and a brilliant shine that can only come from modern urethane paints. It’s a bit bolder than the original Roman Red, but when the result is this good, does it even matter? This car stops traffic wherever it goes. It’s worth noting that it isn’t a real SS, but the correct SS emblems and trim were sourced and installed during the restoration, giving it a factory look that enthusiasts love. In fact, there’s a lot of bright trim that remains in excellent condition, from the bumpers to the stainless moldings around the windows. Dual antennas are a traditional Chevy look and it works as well here as anywhere else. Out back there are three taillights per side, which makes the Impala easy to identify, and all the glass is in very good shape with no cracks or delamination.

The black bucket seat interior takes a few liberties with the factory formula, starting with buckets and a console also borrowed from a real SS. The seats were custom upholstered with factory-style vinyl in a diamond-tufted pattern that’s upscale and gives the interior a unique look that we find very appealing. Reproduction door panels, new carpets, and a fresh headliner were also installed at the same time, and it’s all still in excellent condition with very few signs of use or age. Factory gauges are joined by a tachometer on the steering column and a trio of white-faced dials under the dash, and there’s more engine-turned trim on the dash and console. Entertainment comes from a retro-looking digital AM/FM/cassette head unit that powers speakers in the original locations. There’s also a white cue ball knob for the shifter, which manages the TH350 3-speed automatic underneath. The trunk is correctly outfitted with a reproduction mat set and a full-sized spare tire is perched up on its deck in the original spot, along with a factory jack assembly.

Power comes from a warmed-over 350 cubic inch V8 built by noted experts at Gellner Engineering. It features all the right upgrades, from a 4-barrel carburetor to an MSD ignition system to a heavy-duty aluminum radiator up front. Long-tube headers feed a mellow-sounding dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers, and someone thoughtfully added a reproduction decal to the chrome air cleaner in a nod to the factory build. It runs great, starts easily, and has enough power to make even the big Impala feel light on its feet. Of course, some of that is thanks to power steering and power front disc brakes with a dual reservoir master cylinder. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeds the original rear end, which feels like it has 3.55 gears inside. You’ll note the floors and rockers are in excellent shape and the suspension is fortified with aftermarket control arms and a Panhard rod, along with a set of rear air shocks to keep a level attitude. Ride quality is excellent (the Impala really was a luxury car, after all) and it has just the right bark from the exhaust. Stylish Rally wheels are always a favorite choice, with these carrying staggered 215/65/15 front and 255/60/15 rear blackwall radials.

Documentation includes an original owner’s manual and a thick binder full of receipts for restoration and service.

This is simply a good-looking car that drives just as great as it looks. There’s plenty of power to match the Viper Red paint, and that interior is as comfortable as ever. Iconic good looks and easy road manners are the Impala’s hallmarks and this car has them honed to a fine edge. Ready to rock for far less than the cost of duplication. Call today!
