Power comes from a Chevy 396 cubic inch V8 borrowed from a ‘60s Camaro, and it definitely brings the thunder.

Cool older build with all the right parts. Chevy 396 cubic inch big block, Camaro subframe, A/C, power steering, power disc brakes. Nice bodywork with a classic hot rod look. Runs and drives great! An affordable custom pickup ready to rock!

We really like the look of the post-war Ford trucks—modern and clean but still ready to get to work. Maybe that’s why they respond so well to the hot rod treatment like this 1950 Ford F1, which has a traditional look with a few modern twists. Obviously the bodywork is completely stock—not chopped or frenched or otherwise altered, and that lets the original Ford designers’ vision show through loud and clear. However, a few details like the louvered hood, lowered stance, and flamed paint job give it a unique look that still feels familiar. The flames are expertly done, offering a unique take on the look, and we like the fairly subtle result. Some tasteful red pinstripes add to the 1950s vibe and it all works rather well with the factory hood trim and grille, which looks custom but is 100% OEM. The bed is filled with slightly distressed oak boards that fit with the truck’s working class attitude and with twin blue-dot taillights out back, it sure looks like a product of its time. Nice chrome and stainless trim accentuates the low-key paint job and the whole truck has a cool functional look that we find very appealing.

The interior is filled with bucket seats from a late-model, including fold-down armrests and custom black and red upholstery on the seating surfaces. They fit like they were born there and are far more comfortable than the original bench, which had the support of a church pew. Full carpets help keep it quiet inside and pleated door panels are a traditional touch. The original dashboard is filled with a billet insert and Auto Meter gauges that monitor all the important stuff, plus a tach mounted up high. A billet wheel lives on a tilt steering column and there’s aftermarket A/C neatly installed under the dash. A custom headliner ties everything together with the same patterned cloth and pleats, and there’s enough shiny brightwork to make it feel dressed up, especially for a pickup. It’s actually a pretty comfortable place to spend some time.

Power comes from a Chevy 396 cubic inch V8 borrowed from a ‘60s Camaro, and it definitely brings the thunder. It’s not over-built, so it’s docile and happy on pump gas, but there’s a big hit of torque available at almost any speed and with the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, this truck always feels like it’s ready to go. The Ford’s engine bay provides plenty of space for the big V8 so service access is good, and it’s dressed with the usual upgrades like a 4-barrel carburetor, electronic ignition, and Mickey Thompson finned valve covers. There’s a big aluminum radiator up front and chrome accessories dress things up. Underneath, a front clip from a ‘70s Camaro provides improved suspension, brakes, and steering, so this truck drives in a far more civilized manner than you’d expect. It’s been driven, so it’s not perfect, but there’s clearly no rot or signs of accident damage and the modifications were skillfully done. The dual exhaust system has a nice burble thanks to glasspack-style mufflers and there’s a power brake booster and master cylinder stashed under the floor. A 9-inch Ford rear end sits on leaf springs and air shocks so this truck can still work a bit on weekends if you need it, and the stance is exactly right. 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels carry staggered 215/65/15 front and 255/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials.

This is a great truck for the guy who just wants to get in and start having fun. It has the right upgrades, a great powerplant, and a comfortable ride that makes it ideal for hitting the road. It’s not a show piece or a trailer queen, but it is proven and reliable and looks great from any angle. It’s also reasonably priced, so if you’re looking for a fun old truck that’s a little outside the norm, this is a great choice. Call today!
