With just 934 miles on the odometer, this is a new car in virtually every way that matters.

Make no mistake, we are living in the golden era of horsepower. While the ‘60s muscle cars are the stuff of legends, the truth is that a new 4-cylinder Mustang is faster than the gnarliest of Hemi ‘Cudas back in the glory days. That’s only good news for people who love going fast, because you can buy cars like this 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, which packs an astounding 707 horsepower (that’s like three times as much as an original HEMI in real-world terms) along with a long, long list of comfort and convenience features that even Cadillacs didn’t offer in the ‘60s. And now that it looks like the days of giant horsepower V8s are truly drawing to a close, cars like this are poised to become the cherished muscle cars of the future. Imagine the 1969 Roadrunner that got away and realize that this is your second chance to own a special car that will represent a landmark point in the era.

With just 934 miles on the odometer, this is a new car in virtually every way that matters. It had just one owner, an enthusiast with too many cars so they don’t get driven very often, so you can work that to your advantage here--this killer Hellcat is 30% cheaper than a new one but exactly 0% slower. It is also loaded with $11,000 worth of options including the wickedly quick 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, power sunroof, the satin black hood, and those gorgeous satin black forged aluminum wheels. Of course, that’s all in addition to the standard Hellcat gear, making this one hell of a car.

For Mopar fans, B5 Blue was one of the defining colors of the muscle car era and it is accurately replicated here in a color called, appropriately enough, B5 Blue Pearl Coat. Today’s paints deliver a depth and clarity that they couldn’t match back in the ‘60s, and with that satin black hood and deep chin spoiler, this sucker looks downright nasty. Obviously it’s pretty much in as-new condition and it has never been used in rain, so you get the new car experience. Other cool details include the cold air intake replacing the driver’s side high-beam headlight, the Hellcat emblems on the front fenders (you’ll note this car doesn’t say “Challenger” anywhere on it), and the stubby spoiler on the rear deck that’s reminiscent of the 1970 Challenger T/A. Cool LED taillights and running lights give it a high-tech look at night and thankfully nobody has installed a front license plate so it is unmarked (the plate installation kit is in the trunk if you need to run a front plate).

Inside the Hellcat delivers luxury car features with a performance-oriented cockpit. Imagine getting automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a powerful stereo, power windows, locks, heated seats, and a sunroof in your HEMI Challenger back in 1970. In fact, this car has just about every option you can get. There’s carbon fiber trim on the dash, a big touch screen in the center stack, and those insanely grippy yet surprisingly comfortable seats that are ideal for the performance this car brings. The shifter for the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission operates conventionally, but you can also bump it over to the manual mode and shift using the shifter itself or the paddles mounted on the steering wheel which is a whole lot of fun. The instrument panel has more configuration settings than your computer, so get familiar with everything that it can do, including keeping track of your lap times. There are likely zero cars that can keep up with a Hellcat from, say, 50 MPH to 150 MPH. It’s just insane.

Then again, throttle back and just cruise and it’s happy to do that as well. It idles as smoothly as any other modern V8, it trundles through traffic without making a fuss, and it stays cool on the hottest days with the A/C blasting. Who says the ‘60s were the greatest years for performance? The automatic transmission is not the liability you believe it to be, cracking off lightning-quick shifts at full bore and responding to the paddle shifters as if they were hard-wired to your cerebellum. In fact, even as a manual transmission fan, I think this car works better with the automatic—you’ve got enough to worry about when you put your foot on the floor. The supporting cast is pretty impressive, too, including those giant Brembo disc brakes, a fully independent suspension with adjustable shocks, a two-stage exhaust system with cut-outs, and giant sway bars at both ends. This is literally a car that does everything extremely well—it’s shocking that it’s as affordable as it is. You’ll also note that it’s completely new underneath with all the factory markings, decals, and other details still in place with zero signs of abuse or trauma. Those mammoth 20-inch forged aluminum wheels were a $995 option and they carry their original 275/30/20 Pirelli P-Zero tires with at least 90% of their tread still remaining.

Documentation includes the original window sticker and all the original manuals, just as if you were purchasing it new.

Seriously, this is the biggest bang for the buck in the performance world. And make no mistake, the days of cars like this being available from your local dealership are numbered, just as they were in 1970. Remember what happened? You had the chance to own something awesome, missed it, and lived to regret it. Don’t let this Hellcat be a repeat of that. Get in, have fun, and own what future generations will likely regard as the ultimate muscle car. Call today!
