It is quite likely the best original 1934 Chevy 3-window coupe in existence and represents a thoughtful, careful approach to curating that few cars receive.

Incredible survivor in almost entirely original condition. Wonderful patina, very clean interior, 38,000 original miles. Extensive recent service including engine, transmission and rear end, tires, exhaust, and more! If you love originality, this car will win you over immediately.

There are surely some who just don’t understand the appeal of a slightly scruffy car like this, so if that’s you, feel free to move on. If, on the other hand, you are one of those people who loves to be able to see the passage of time before your eyes and the feel of history under your fingers, this wonderful little Chevy is a special find. It is quite likely the best original 1934 Chevy 3-window coupe in existence and represents a thoughtful, careful approach to curating that few cars receive. It has had just four owners in its lifetime, with the third owner buying it in 1992 after more than 40 years of storage in a barn. His intention was to build a hot rod, but once he got it home, he realized just how special this car really is—it would have been a shame to cut it up. So instead, he embarked on an intensive process of mechanical freshening that would turn it into a reliable runner while leaving the admittedly aged cosmetics alone. That means the Arcadian Green paint on the bodywork is entirely original and with a little help, it has shined up nicely without erasing any patina. The fenders were black lacquer and they, too, are original—the different types of paint used on the assembly line explains the different levels of weathering. Look closely and you will find nothing but surface scale, no rot or perforation, and the way it fits together would be hard to replicate in a restoration shop. And if you crave history, check out the bullet marks on the passenger’s side of the cowl and windshield post—leftovers from its time in the barn where pot shots lost just enough of their velocity to only dent the metal, not puncture it. The chrome polished up pretty well and even details like the rubber step pads on the running boards and top insert are in remarkably good shape. As fans of original cars, we’ve rarely seen a better example than this.

The handsome tan mohair interior is likewise entirely original, right down to the rubber mat that’s still intact on the floor. The seat upholstery and door panels are excellent for their age and it’s easy to settle in behind the wheel for a cruise—the 3-window coupe is surprisingly spacious. An aftermarket water temperature gauge was stashed under the dash on the driver’s side since it wasn’t part of the original instrument panel, and there’s a period-correct Arvin heater on the passenger’s side. The DC coupe offered a trunk in place of a rumble seat, giving you massive storage and you’ll note on this car there’s nothing to hide—the wood structure is solid, the floors are not rotted, and there’s room for al your gear.

The engine is a 181 cubic inch version of Chevy’s legendary “Stovebolt” six, which was making a reasonable 60 horsepower in 1934. The gutsy little six has turbine-smooth acceleration and feels energetic on the road, all thanks to extensive service done when it was pulled out of storage. The head was pulled for a full valve job, new rings, the entire fuel system was rebuilt, all the ignition components were replaced, the cooling system was overhauled, all the belts and hoses are new, so it runs and drives beautifully. You’ll note nothing was restored or repainted, so it looks authentic, but the drive is definitely that of a much younger car.

Underneath, it’s original but clean and there’s only one area of slight perforation—the little box under the seat, but it’s nothing that you need to worry about. The 3-speed manual gearbox features synchromesh on 2nd and 3rd so it’s easy to handle and the clutch was replaced and recently adjusted. You’ll note the exhaust system is new, but the tailpipe was intentionally aged and rusted with a salt water bath so it wouldn’t look out of place. The rear end was serviced and with 4.10 gears, this little Chevy feels quick around town. There’s also a new gas tank hanging out back that’s a little larger than stock. Beautiful 17-inch wire wheels were repainted and have just been fitted with new 5.25/5.50-17 blackwall tires that have just a few hundred miles on them.

Extras include a ton of documentation, owner’s manual, shop manual, history, and other paperwork. You will also receive a significant cache of spare parts that includes a spare steering column, brake components, instrument panel, taillights, 5 original wheels, and much, much more.

This is a special car. If it were a barn-find 1934 Ford 3-window coupe in this condition, it might be a $75,000 car. The fact that it’s a Chevy makes it even more unusual and for Bowtie fans, this is an exciting find. Take a drive and you’ll quickly realize that a car that hasn’t been blown apart is unique and nothing drives better than an original car. That’s why we think survivors are awesome. Call today!
