Today, the Z06 remains the most highly-sought of the C5s and still delivers a purity of driving that few other cars can match.

18,334 original miles. Rare color combination. Loaded with almost every available Z06 option. Upgraded with coil-over suspension and aftermarket 18/19 inch wheels, otherwise stock. Runs and drives as it should. The C5 to own for the future!

For reasons that weren’t altogether clear at the time, GM engineers developed three body styles for the C5 Corvette, including what they called the “fixed roof coupe.” But it wasn’t until a year later that their real motives became clear: the Z06. Lighter, faster, and built for combat, it was the ultimate expression of Corvette performance up to that time. Lighter on luxury and heavy on lightness (titanium exhaust!), it was the car that you bought if you were serious about your track days. Today, the Z06 remains the most highly-sought of the C5s and still delivers a purity of driving that few other cars can match. And when it’s dressed in Millennium Yellow, there’s no mistaking its intent. Special Z06 features included the scoops ahead of the rear wheels to feed the brakes cool air, mesh screens over the front air intakes, and, of course, the Z06 emblems advertising “405 HORSEPOWER” on the fenders. With beautiful paint and bodywork that doesn’t dent or rust, this is a great-looking Corvette that’s in fantastic condition.

Black leather was the only choice in the Z06, as were the base seats in the interest of keeping weight low. You did, however, get things like special Z06 embroidery on the headrests and all the stuff that makes it a driver’s car: heads-up display, aluminum pedals, and special gauge faces with a checkerboard pattern. Of course, the 6-speed was the only transmission available and GM’s excellent traction and stability control systems were standard equipment, so you can decide how much of a safety net you want to work with. The leather seats show some signs of use and age (not unusual given the mediocre quality coming out GM at the time) but nothing that would suggest neglect and strapping in while watching the gauges come to life is still exciting. For creature comforts, you get things like dual zone A/C, power windows, locks, mirrors, and driver’s seat, and a decent AM/FM/CD stereo system. There’s also a good-sized trunk out back which reminds us that the C5 might still just be the most practical performance car you can buy.

The all-aluminum LS6 V8 used in the Z06 was an evolution of the standard LS1—still 5.7 liters (346 cubic inches) but with head, cam, and programming improvements, it offered an extra 55 horsepower that you can really feel. Red coil covers make the LS6 easy to spot and this one has exactly zero modifications, which is always good to see on a car like this. It starts easily, idles properly, and pulls the lightweight coupe around without any effort at all, and you’ll discover that the well-balanced C5 platform is simply a joy to toss into the corners. Steer it with your foot or your fingers, it remains a first-rate dance partner. The 6-speed manual offers reasonably crisp throws and revised gear ratios to work with the LS6’s unique power curve, although 6th is still a towering overdrive that allows relaxed cruising and surprising fuel economy. The suspension is an evolution of the Z51 package available on lesser Corvettes and that lightweight titanium exhaust system sings a rather unique song that’s just fantastic. This car has been fortified with a custom coil-over suspension that replaces the factory fiberglass leaf springs and offers far more adjustability without a ride harshness penalty. Red calipers clamp sizeable disc brakes (you won’t run out of stopping power in this car) and it wears custom MSW wheels with giant 265/35/18 front and 295/30/19 rear Michelin Pilot radials.

Documentation includes the original window sticker, manuals, and additional Corvette information that’s great for any enthusiast.

Fast, fun, and shockingly affordable given the level of performance, the C5 Z06 is on a lot of collectors’ wish lists for a good reason. Durable, easy to handle, and even a bit practical, it’s everything that’s great about late-model Corvettes. With a sinister look and a few discreet upgrades, this Corvette is just what you’ve been waiting for. Call today!
