Thanks to a Ford Motorsports supercharger installed and tuned by the experts at Hutter Performance, this one is considerably more muscular than it was in 1995—figure 400 or so horsepower on tap today.

Supercharged 5.0 with Ford Motorsports supercharger installed and tuned by Hutter Performance. No winters, adult owned, everything works. Chrome Cobra R style wheels, 3.73 gears, subframe connectors, upgraded exhaust, and more. Potent yet very affordable.

“Potent yet affordable” has always been the Mustang’s motto. By the time this 1995 Ford Mustang GT was built, the 5.0 was a legend and building more power without sacrificing reliability was second nature. The all-new styling that hit the market in 1994 was little changed for 1995, but it was a much-needed facelift that gave the Mustang a new look without losing its iconic status. Today these cars are still instantly recognizable on the street and command respect with their “5.0” emblems on the front fenders. Dressed in black, this super clean GT has been a grown-up’s summertime toy since it was new, never a teenager’s beater. As a result, it wears original paint and bodywork and has never been wrecked or rusty. Aside from the faux hood scoop, it is entirely as the factory intended: clean but with an aggressive edge. We like that aspect, as it makes this car a bit of a sleeper—nobody will see it coming until it’s too late. Build quality was considerably better on these cars than the earlier Fox bodies and the structure is far more rigid, making for a more substantial-feeling car. It’s still light enough to be tossable, but the way it fits together is still impressive nearly 30 years later. A few traditional design cues remain, from the running pony in the front grille to the three-element taillights, but it’s not like this car will go unrecognized. A 5.0 Mustang GT is still a force to be reconned with.

One of the best parts of the SN-95 upgrade was the interior, which went from being kind of basic to downright luxurious. This car still carries its original cloth upholstery, which any serious racer will tell you is more desirable than slippery leather, and the buckets are all-day comfortable. The twin-cockpit design is a bit sportier and puts all the controls within easy reach. And as a GT, this car is loaded with options, including A/C, power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, rear defrost, and a decent AM/FM/cassette stereo. A full array of gauges was standard equipment, all easily visible through the spokes of the leather-wrapped wheel, which finally tilts (something Fox body Mustang owners would have loved to have). The only notable modifications here are the A-pillar gauges monitoring air-fuel ratios and fuel pressure—critical for any forced-induction setup. There’s also a decent back seat and a spacious trunk, both of which look like they’ve been hardly used—even the original spare still lives underneath.

The 5.0 liter V8 is legendary, so we won’t spend a lot of time extolling its virtues here other than to say it’s virtually indestructible. Thanks to a Ford Motorsports supercharger installed and tuned by the experts at Hutter Performance, this one is considerably more muscular than it was in 1995—figure 400 or so horsepower on tap today. Other upgrades include a Cobra intake manifold (quite desirable and rare today), MSD ignition system, custom headers, and a high-flow H-pipe with catalytic converters (so it's street legal). All together they make for a car that starts, idles, and drives like a stocker but with a lot more power on tap. Crack the throttle and this car lunges forward at any speed in any gear, and with the Motorsports supercharger, it’s stealthy with no gear whine. Like I said, nobody will see this one coming until it’s too late. The 4-speed automatic transmission snaps through the gears when you need it but makes for a relaxed travelling partner when you’re just cruising and the tall overdrive makes the 3.73 gears out back feel civilized on the highway. The suspension and brakes are standard GT fare, so it sits right on those 16-inch Cobra R-style wheels and staggered 225/55/16 front and 255/50/16 rear performance radials.

Documentation includes the original owner’s manuals and books.

Still fast, still fun, still affordable, the 5.0 Mustang will always be on enthusiasts’ short lists. With professional upgrades and zero quirks, this handsome black GT drives great and asks for very little in return for some pretty astounding performance. Look at the hardware, the condition of the car, and the price, and then give us a call. There just aren’t many bigger bangs for the buck anywhere.
