In short, this is the one you want.

79,782 original miles. 2500 with Cummins turbo diesel and automatic transmission. Clean CarFax. Fantastic color combination with leather interior. Loaded with options. Everything works. Big truck ready to do big jobs!

There may not be any machine more indestructible than the Cummins turbo diesel found in this Dodge Ram. If it has fuel and air and you can spin it, it’ll run. The 24V 5.9 liter inline-6 is legendary in hauling circles for its torque and longevity, and since it was built in 2001, it doesn’t have any of the modern emissions controls or DEF fluid requirements. In short, this is the one you want. With just under 80,000 original miles, it’s only just getting broken-in and thanks to a lifetime with long-term conscientious owners, it's in fantastic condition inside and out. The Intense Blue Pearlcoat paint looks awesome on the Ram’s big rig sheetmetal, especially with the gray lower rockers. The truck has obviously never been used in harsh winter weather, as it’s super clean throughout, and the bodywork presents extremely well for something that’s old enough to drink in all 50 states. Accessories include the tubular step plates, some chrome pieces, a wind deflector up front, and mud flaps, which probably help contribute to the truck’s awesome condition. There’s also a color-matched cap and a molded BedRug that turns the bed into dry, secure storage. Check out the photos and you’ll see that this is an extremely clean truck that’s always been loved.

The charcoal leather interior is a nice step up from the standard cloth and the Laramie SLT package ensures that it has all the right features. Comfortable heated power bucket seats straddle a wide center console and there’s very little wear on the leather beyond some modest wrinkles that are all but inevitable. Other features include A/C, power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, tilt steering column, and a decent AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo system. The burled walnut looking dashboard adds an upscale feel and the passenger compartment feels very luxurious compared to many of this Ram’s peers. The back seat is unmarked and there’s an overhead console with a built-in trip computer. Again, the condition of the interior speaks volumes about the care this truck received over its life.

The 5.9-liter 24-valve Cummins inline-6 diesel engine really needs no introduction. With big rig torque and legendary reliability, it’s been the choice of people with big stuff to move for decades. This is the version everyone wants, too, with significant power upgrades thanks to the 24-valve head but without the cumbersome electronic controls that would come later. It has been properly maintained and with just over 79,000 miles on the clock, it should last for many years to come if you continue to take care of it. The engine bay shows off a lifetime out of the elements and there’s plenty of evidence of proper maintenance over the years, which mostly amounts to oil changes as needed. It’s almost entirely stock save for an Edge Products tuner that adds some horsepower and torque to help with towing, but it’s easily removed if you don’t want the added power (yeah, right). The 4-speed automatic transmission is a great choice for all-around use and can make towing easier if you’re not a professional. Shifts are clean and it pulls nicely in all four gears. 3.54 gears out back make it a fantastic highway hauler and with that Cummins, you’ll run out of capacity before it does on the road. 4-wheel disc brakes are powerful and that’s still the original exhaust system, so it sounds right. You’ll note that the floors and inner rockers are spotless, there are newer shocks, and it sits on polished aluminum wheels with right-sized 265/75/16 white-letter radials.

Extras include the original owner’s manuals and booklets as well as a spare taillight housing.

We can’t quite say these are collectable, although there’s a very strong following for these first-generation Rams with the big rig styling. They’re excellent trucks, well-built and known for reliability, and with the Cummins turbo diesel, they can pull just about anything. If you need a new tow vehicle, an all-around work truck, or just a clean driver that can hang out at casual shows, this Ram is an excellent choice. It’s led a good life. Call today!
