This pretty 1967 Mustang coupe has been in the same owner’s hands for more than 20 years when he brought it home from California. He drove it for a while but more recently it was treated to a very high-quality respray in brilliant Viper Red, which is perhaps the reddest red we’ve ever seen. It sure looks right on the cheerful Mustang bodywork and thanks to its west coast heritage, there’s exactly zero rot or patchwork underneath that shiny finish. Panel fit is quite good and while they had it apart, most of the trim was polished or replaced so it would all measure up when it went back together. The only notable modifications are the satin black tail panel, which looks awesome, and deleted chrome trim on the rain gutters, but the chrome pieces are included with the car if you’d like to reinstall them. Note the factory hood-mounted turn signal indicators, the familiar Mustang running pony in the grille opening, and the faux vents in the quarter panels, all of which give the coupe a sporty feel. It also features nice glass and reproduction emblems and lenses, so it looks crisp and well-finished. It’s a really nice car!

The black vinyl interior was restored to stock specs, but when it looks this good there’s really no need to reinvent the wheel. Reproduction seat covers, correct carpets, and new door panels give it an OEM feel, while the big, thin-rimmed steering wheel is pure 1960s cool. Big, round gauges monitor the engine and they all work, including the aftermarket voltmeter in the center of the dash that almost looks like it was born there. An aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo is neatly installed in the original radio’s slot, and it’s probably been there for 40 years. You’ll also note a custom center console between the seats that provides a pair of cupholders and a nice armrest, plus a little storage, and it’s removable if you don’t like it. The headliner might be original and remains in excellent condition and the trunk was custom upholstered with matching black carpets and a vinyl cover for the spare tire, just to give it a more finished look.

The engine is a bulletproof and utterly smooth 200 cubic inch inline-6. Before you scoff at it, remember that this was the most popular engine in the early Mustangs and it really works well. Today it starts easily, idles nicely, and pulls the coupe around without much effort at all. No, you’re not going to win any drag races, but it works so well that you might be tempted to drive this Mustang every day and with its thrifty fuel economy, that’s not really much of a hardship at all. It’s neatly dressed in Ford Blue with a few dress-up items, so the engine bay really looks great. 1967 was the first year for a dual master cylinder, and this car is equipped with power steering so it’s easy to handle even in tight spaces. The C4 3-speed automatic transmission is reliable and unobtrusive, serving up a quick downshift to get the six into the meaty part of its powerband for passing maneuvers. The undercarriage also shows no evidence of life in the rust belt, with super clean original floors, excellent torque boxes, and no issues in the rockers—west coast cars really are better. The door tag says there are 3.00 gears in the rear end, so it’s a relaxed cruiser on the highway and someone has fitted new shocks and done a lot of recent brake work to make it ready to drive. A correct transverse muffler gives the six a nice burble at idle and those custom 15-inch wheels look great against the bright red bodywork. Fat 215/60/15 performance radials add to the cool stance and give this pony a bit of an attitude.

Extras include a Chilton’s service manual.

We sell every Mustang coupe we can find and when they’re this nice with this much money spent on them, we figure it’s a slam-dunk. Mustangs are still affordable fun and this one stands out with a few custom additions that don’t change its personality but rather enhance the driving experience. If you’re looking for a super clean Mustang with no stories or excuses, this is a great choice. Call today!
