We have photos of a rather extensive restoration approximately 15 years ago and thanks to excellent care ever since, it remains in first-class condition throughout.

Attractive Series V Alpine from long-term ownership. Older restoration in excellent condition with extensive recent service. Overdrive, upgraded Panasport wheels, new stainless exhaust. Many spares and documents included. A great Alpine ready to enjoy!

Hailing from more than 20 years with the same family, this is an Alpine that has been loved. We have photos of a rather extensive restoration approximately 15 years ago and thanks to excellent care ever since, it remains in first-class condition throughout. The bright red paint seems fitting for a 2-seat sports car and the refined Alpine look was appealing enough to get Carroll Shelby to stuff a V8 in it. Bodywork is quite good and the restoration photos show a solid car underneath the shiny red paint. Good gaps, doors that close solidly, and smooth reflective surfaces all point to careful work on a good car. A few chrome bits dress up the Alpine, including the distinctive single-bar grille, exposed trunk hinges, and slender bumpers. The Series V cars’ tail fins were less pronounced, but small fins give the Alpine a connection to its past. From any angle, this is a handsome car.

The black vinyl interior was refreshed as well, from the bucket seats to new carpets to the simple door panels. Jaeger gauges look expensive and cover all the critical functions and the secondary controls’ toggle switches are the same used in the Jaguar E-Type. There is no radio (why would you need it in this car?) and the heating system is basic, but a British sports car isn’t meant to be particularly sophisticated. The big steering wheel makes the unassisted steering easy to manage and quite communicative and the shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission falls to hand easily on its own perch like that. There’s a bit of storage space behind the seats, so the Alpine is a good choice for sporting road trips and there’s a good-sized trunk out back. It’s also fairly weather tight with roll-up windows and a recent black convertible top. A full tonneau is also included.

The engine is the final iteration of Rootes’ 1725 cc inline-4, which was making about 92 horsepower in 1965. While that may not seem like much today, there’s not much car to haul around and performance is entertaining. The rebuilt engine starts easily and has a great performance car sound and feel—not smooth but quite eager. It’s fed by a single downdraft carburetor, which makes tuning easy, and it features an alternator instead of a generator for more reliable electricals. The mechanical fan has been removed in favor of an electric unit (the original fan is included with the car) so it runs nice and cool on the open road and it’s quite nicely detailed under the hood with few signs of use. The undercarriage is original but completely solid with only some surface scale on the heavy metal parts. The 4-speed manual transmission features a new clutch and an overdrive, so this car cruises comfortably in today’s world. The suspension is remarkably compliant, giving the Alpine a luxurious ride, but it doesn’t mind hustling, either. New shocks, rebuilt disc brakes, and a fresh stainless exhaust system make it ready to go immediately. Handsome Panasport aluminum wheels are a great upgrade and carry 185/70/13 blackwall radials.

Extras include the original jack assembly, factory books, manuals, restoration photos, receipts, spare parts, an extra transmission and driveshaft, and much more.

Living in the Tiger’s shadow, the Alpine remains a great car in its own right. Equal to a TR4 or TR6 in performance and far more comfortable, it represents a great value if you’re looking for a British sports car. It has all the right ingredients, plus an overdrive to make it civilized, and you may be surprised by just how much you enjoy driving it. Come try it on for size and give us a call today!
