If you want to really see what the C2 was supposed to look like, examine this car closely.

Matching numbers 327/300 with 4-speed, original (and awesome) color combination, factory side pipes, removable hardtop. Beautiful car with one repaint and a new interior. Runs and drives extremely well. A fantastic Mid-Year Corvette with a strong pedigree.

Perennial favorites, the early Sting Ray is one of the best all-around hobby cars you can own. Comfortable, fast, competent, and still a rock star in this age of 800 horsepower muscle cars, it just does everything well. And while the big blocks get all the attention, our motto when I was building racing Corvettes was, “I can get my small block car around the track faster than your big block car.” That remains true on the street, where cars like this beautiful Silver Pearl Corvette convertible are just a joy to drive. Silver Pearl was a special color, the only one that received a secondary polishing once it came off the assembly line so it would look exactly right. It gives the sleek Sting Ray shape an almost high tech look and readily accentuates the dramatic curves and sharp relief lines. If you want to really see what the C2 was supposed to look like, examine this car closely. Panel fit is very good throughout, and there are no signs of problems in the usual locations like around the headlight doors. The hood snaps closed with only light pressure from your fingertips—no need for a hard slam—and the doors make a reassuring THUNK when you pull them closed. Nice chrome and stainless trim looks crisp against the silver bodywork and we believe those are factory-issued side pipes, suggesting that the guy who ordered this car new knew what he was doing. It’s a great driver as well as beautiful to look at.

The red vinyl interior is also how this car was ordered, and the brilliant contrast is not only rare but insanely attractive. Much better than plain old black, the red upholstery gives this car a crisp, well-tailored look that we really like, The seat covers are recent and the carpets have surely been replaced, but it’s possible that everything else is original—hard to tell because it’s all in such fine condition. The woodgrained steering wheel warms things up a bit and frames the traditional round instruments that include a correct tachometer with a 5500 RPM redline. Everything works, including the clock, AM/FM radio, and even the power antenna, so someone has spent the time getting the little stuff right. That really matters. The big chrome gear lever manages the original 4-speed Muncie M20 transmission, and there’s nothing like ripping through the gears in a Corvette convertible equipped with side pipes. Extras include rubber floor mats to protect the carpets and color-matched seat belts, which are only a good idea. There’s a bit of storage behind the seats so this Corvette is fun for a weekend getaway, and there’s a well-fitted black convertible top that can be stowed in seconds with a little practice. This car also includes a matching removable hardtop.

The engine is a 300 horsepower 327 cubic inch V8, which wears both a matching VIN stamp and a correct HE suffix code for a 4-speed car. With a 4-barrel carburetor on top, it’s a proven entity, a great runner, and bulletproof reliable. Turn the key and it sparks to life almost instantly and settles into a burbling idle that sounds mean but not obnoxious. And lest you think that the “base” engine isn’t enough, take this sucker for a drive and see how well 300 horsepower delivers in a car that barely weighs 3000 pounds. It’s correctly detailed with Chevy Orange paint, finned ‘Corvette’ valve covers, and an open-element air cleaner with correct decals. Even the little stuff is correct, with GM-logo heater hoses and tower hose clamps, and all the ignition shielding is in place. Experts will note that a dual master cylinder and power brake booster were added, but that’s the lone modification and we think it’s a welcome one. The aforementioned Muncie 4-speed also wears a stamping that matches the VIN and the rear end has a proper date code and is stamped for a 3.08 gear, making this ‘Vette a superbly comfortable cruiser. We don’t believe the body has ever been off the frame, so it’s a little crusty underneath, but the ‘birdcage’ area and kick-ups ahead of the rear wheels are completely solid and there are no structural issues. The side pipes make a lot of room underneath and obviously a car with fiberglass floors won’t have rust issues in that department. 4-wheel disc brakes were standard equipment and there’s a full-sized spare tire stashed in the carrier out back. The only visible modification are those vintage Torque Thrust wheels, but we think they really work on this car and they’re wrapped in fresh 205/75/15 BFGoodrich redline radials.

Some cars are just “right.” We sell a lot of cars, but not many are as cohesive as this beautiful silver Corvette. It has been properly maintained, never fully disassembled, and features robust hardware that feels indestructible in the real world. Believe us, all Corvettes aren’t created equal. Special cars stand out and this one looks and drive like a very special car indeed. Call today!
