The 2500 is the heavy-duty version of the Suburban, more akin to a 1-ton pickup than the light duty half-ton 1500 version.

Desirable 3/4-ton Suburban 4x4 in great condition. Properly maintained, clear CarFAX, two owners from new. Recent Michelin tires, shocks, and fluids. Attractive and unusual color combination with beautiful leather interior. Big hauler ready for anything!

The 2500 is the heavy-duty version of the Suburban, more akin to a 1-ton pickup than the light duty half-ton 1500 version. And it’s kind of nice to see a 2500 that isn’t a white fleet vehicle with terrible seats! The color is actually called Blue Granite Metallic, and it’s a handsome dark steel blue that works quite well on the massive Suburban’s rounded sheetmetal. It’s super clean with no parking lot dings or other maladies, and while it isn’t perfect after nearly 15 years, it remains extremely nice throughout. It has never been hit or wrecked, the doors close properly, the hood snugs down nicely, and it feels rugged and robust going down the road. There are helpful running boards given the 2500’s slightly raised stance, but there are no notable modifications aside from the appealing red and silver pinstripe that runs along its flanks. Even the nose has remarkably few stone chips, a testament to the care it has received.

The light gray leather interior features buckets up front and two rows of benches in back, making it a true 8-passenger vehicle. The leather remains in excellent shape with the driver’s seat showing some expected wear but no rips, tears, or other issues. Everything works, including the dual A/C, power windows, locks, seats, and mirrors, and cruise control makes this a fantastic road trip vehicle. Warm faux burled walnut dresses up the interior a bit and the big, round gauges are easy to read at a glance. You’ll note the original AM/FM radio is gone, replaced by a new Alpine AM/FM/satellite/Navigation stereo system that sounds great and works seamlessly as if it were an OEM piece (the original radio is included with the truck). There are heavy-duty floor mats and a WeatherTech cargo liner in back, along with the original retractable shade. Both rows of rear seats fold down, making an 8-foot cargo bay that can carry anything a full-sized pickup truck can, making the Suburban extremely handy around the house or shop. It also features a built-in trailer brake controller, which, with the ¾-ton chassis makes this the ideal hauler for your recreational toys. The only notable issue is that sometimes the driver’s door doesn’t signal the interior computer that it has been opened, so the stereo doesn’t shut off immediately. Otherwise it is fully functional.

The only engine available in the 2500 was the 6.0 liter Vortech V8, which makes 352 horsepower and 382 lb-ft. of torque, plenty for most towing jobs. It starts easily and idles nicely and pulls the big truck around with ease. The engine bay is tidy and clean with plenty of evidence of proper maintenance over the years. You’ll note that there’s a K&N intake and air filter, but that is the lone modification, one that doesn’t seem to affect anything but may make some additional horsepower. The 6-speed automatic transmission has a deep overdrive that allows this truck to cruise comfortably and pull down decent, if not exceptional fuel economy. It also offers several tow/haul modes and the 2009 models feature 3.73 gears, so they’re a bit more thrifty than subsequent trucks with 4.10s. The 4-wheel-drive system works properly, with an automatic mode that brings the front axle online when slippage is detected, as well as the normal 4-HI and 4-LO ranges. It’s a little crusty underneath, as it has been used as a daily driver for several years, but there is no critical rust or rot and just surface scale on the frame itself. There are newer Bilstein shock absorbers all around, which really improve this big brute’s ride quality, and factory 17-inch wheels carry recent 265/70/17 Michelin all-season tires that are quiet and comfortable on the highway.

If you need just one vehicle for a lot of jobs, it’s hard to beat Chevy’s Suburban. With the load-carrying capacity of a ¾-ton truck, this one can work harder than most, and it doesn’t come with any penalties, because it still rides nicely, cruises quietly, and feels luxurious inside. A whole lot of truck for not a lot of cash. Call today!
