Of course, with only 3130 original miles, the highest praise we can offer this car is that it’s pretty much as new throughout.

3130 original miles (not a typo). 100% original except battery and tires. Beautifully preserved and incredibly clean. No modifications, clean CarFax. Desirable Azure Blue paint. The Mach 1 might just be the all-around best late-model Mustang you can own!

Would a Cobra by any other name smell as sweet? The Mustang Mach 1 gave you all the performance of the Cobra without the tricky independent suspension. The result was a fantastic Mustang performance car with the rear-wheel-drive feel that traditionalists preferred. And if you were going to the drag strip, nothing was better than the live axle and high-winding 32-valve V8 combination. Finish it in Azure Blue like this stunning 2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1, and you have one of the best all-around performance cars of the early 2000s. It’s instantly recognizable and the callbacks to the original Mach 1 of 1969 are plentiful, from the Shaker hood scoop to the Mach 1 graphics to the subtle wing out back. The New Edge styling gave the Mustang a crisply tailored suit to match its performance and the subtle Mach 1 additions only make it look better. Of course, with only 3130 original miles, the highest praise we can offer this car is that it’s pretty much as new throughout. It has never been wrecked, painted, touched up, or abused, so you’re essentially getting a second chance to own an icon.

The retro vibe continues inside, where the black leather interior features narrow horizontal pleats that replicate Ford’s “Comfort-Weave” upholstery of the ‘60s. There’s also a full set of analog gauges with a 1960s font that first showed up on the Bullitt Mustangs, plus lightweight aluminum pedals and a custom shifter. Almost everything was standard equipment in the Mach 1, including cold A/C, power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, rear defrost, and a great-sounding AM/FM/CD stereo with a 6-disc in-dash CD changer. And just for fun, there’s a big “TRAC OFF” button there on the console to turn off the traction control and let this rear-wheel-drive pony car do what it does best. Condition-wise, everything works and it’s in excellent condition with only a few signs of someone sitting in the driver’s seat. The carpets are unmarked, the door panels are like new, and even the headliner looks factory fresh. The trunk has probably never carried anything substantial and the spare tire has never been used.

The Mach 1 was much more than your usual “tape and stripes” package. No, to give it some real teeth, the 4.6-liter DOHC V8 from the Cobra was dropped under the hood. If you haven’t driven one of these, you’re missing one of the great treats of recent automaking—a torquey V8 that loves to rev and makes the most expensive-sounding exhaust note we’ve ever heard. It feels like a traditional Mustang, of course, but it rips through the gears with a ferocity that the old 5.0 could never match. And while there are catalogs full of upgrades, this one remains 100% stock from the air filter to the exhaust tips, so no questionable workmanship and no history or racing or abuse. And yes, that hood scoop is functional, feeding the airbox cool, fresh outside air (and it does indeed shake when the engine is on the roll). It starts easily, idles properly, and like I said, makes the most wonderful sounds when you’re out on the road. The 5-speed manual is the ideal companion, with ratios chosen just for the V8’s high-winding nature and 3.55 gears were standard equipment out back. The suspension was re-tuned for duty on the Mach 1 and uses expensive Tokico shocks, so it’s supple but competent, never putting a tire wrong. Giant disc brakes were also borrowed from the Cobra, so there’s huge stopping power on tap. 17-inch wheels were designed to look like traditional Magnums, with these wearing new 245/45/17 performance radials all around.

Documentation includes the original owner’s manuals and binder.

This was an exciting car when it hit the streets and if you were there when the Cobra’s 4.6 was the engine to have in your Mustang, this will bring back some great memories. And with a near-new car wrapped around it, it’s a good bet for future appreciation. Easily one of the best available anywhere. Call now!
