The bodywork underneath looks to be in good order and given how clean this thing is underneath, it sure doesn’t look like it spent any time in the rust belt.

Very clean 1972 Mustang Grande in attractive colors. One repaint, original top and interior. Great running 302 with 4-barrel carburetor, automatic transmission. An affordable Mustang that gives you a lot of car for your money!

If you’ve been watching the Mustang market, you might have noticed that the 1971-73 Mustangs are heating up, which is part of why we like this bright green Grande so much. It’s an opportunity to get in while the tide is still going up, enjoy the car, and maybe make some money on the other end. Someone has certainly spent some good money on it, including a decent respray in bright green, which probably isn’t too far from the original color. A bit brighter, perhaps, but certainly period appropriate. The bodywork underneath looks to be in good order and given how clean this thing is underneath, it sure doesn’t look like it spent any time in the rust belt. It’s not perfect, with a few minor blemishes here and there, but overall it fits together nicely and feels good going down the road. We also like that the ’72s still had chrome bumpers, which add a little flash to the Mustang’s long nose, and the vinyl top is in excellent condition with no signs of trouble underneath. The more we look, the more we like about this nice little pony.

The green interior appears to be almost entirely original and it’s in just fantastic condition. High back buckets flank a console with a T-handle shifter, so it certainly feels like a sporty Mustang from behind the wheel. That wheel is an aftermarket piece that has a fat leather rim, a big improvement over the skinny plastic piece it would have used originally. Deep round instrument pods hold the gauges, which cover the basics of speed and fuel level, but sadly the clock isn’t working. Someone has, however, added blue LED lighting for the instruments, giving them a cool glow at night that’s a bit more high-tech than the original (and dim) bulbs. The tall stack houses a modern digital radio and the heater controls, and we like the simplicity of this Mustang—not much here to go wrong. Carpets have probably been replaced because they’re just too nice to be 50 years old, and they’re protected by heavy-duty rubber mats. Door panels are excellent, there’s recent weather-stripping, and even the headliner appears to be an excellent original piece. Someone definitely cared about this car. There’s also a nicely finished trunk with a correct mat, brand new spare tire, and a matching cover. See what we mean about there being a lot to like here?

The engine is an F-code 302 cubic inch V8. Originally equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor, it has been upgraded to a 4-barrel which really wakes it up. It starts easily and idles nicely and just goes about its business without any trouble—a trait we appreciate in old cars simply because it’s so rare. With Ford Blue engine enamel, a chrome air cleaner, and a lot of new parts under the hood, it looks right for a Mustang. There’s a giant radiator up front, new tune-up parts, and recent belts and hoses, so this Mustang is ready to enjoy right away. A 3-speed automatic transmission makes for an easy-going Mustang, and combined with power steering and disc brakes, anyone can slide behind the wheel and start having fun right away. There are a lot of new parts here, too, including lower control arms, brake calipers, bushings, tie rods, and much more, so the car feels tight going down the road. Long-tube headers feed a fresh dual exhaust system with an X-pipe, so it sounds wonderful and looks awesome with those big chrome tips poking out back. The undercarriage is impressively clean for an unrestored car and aside from some minor surface scale, there’s no structural rust. The 9-inch rear end houses 2.79 gears, so this Mustang is an easy highway cruiser, and Magnum 500 wheels look awesome with fat 235/60/14 white-letter radials.

Documentation includes the original owner’s manual.

This is an easy car to like, from the bright, cheerful color to the eager V8 to the long list of recent work. Entry-level Mustangs are rarely this nice and while it’s not perfect, it represents a way to get in and enjoy a vintage pony car for not a lot of cash. Given the strong market in late first-gen Mustangs, we can only surmise that the next owner will enjoy it both while he’s driving it and when it’s time to pass it along. Call today!
