It remains completely stock and is wearing entirely original paint and decals, which means no accidents, no rust, and no hidden surprises underneath.
One of 1235 built to commemorate the 1993 Indy 500. 78,462 original miles. Same owner since 1994. Completely stock and unmodified. Everything works. Recent tires. Clean CarFax. An unusual and popular pickup with limited edition appeal.
There wasn’t an actual truck pacing the 1993 Indianapolis 500 (it was a Camaro) but the 1993 Silverado was the official truck of the race, and that’s what this cool 1993 Chevrolet 1500 Pace Truck was designed to emulate. GM built 1235 replicas for public consumption, and while you’ve probably seen them online and maybe at a show, they’re still pretty rare. This particular Pace Truck has been in long-term ownership, purchased when it was less than a year old and properly maintained for the next 30 years (has it been that long already?). It remains completely stock and is wearing entirely original paint and decals, which means no accidents, no rust, and no hidden surprises underneath. It shows 78,462 miles, which is a correct reading and suggests that the truck has been used sparingly to keep it healthy but never as a daily driver (that’s about 2600 miles a year). The bright ribbon-like decals are still crisp and bright, with no peeling on the edges or yellowing, and even the windshield banner is in excellent condition. The paint, which is circa 1993 GM quality, still looks quite good with few notable demerits beyond one or two nicks on the front bumper. It shines up beautifully and still looks unique in today’s world, which is entirely the point of owning a truck like this. And one look at the bed tells you that this truck has never worked for a living—it’s CLEAN!
Inside, it’s standard GM C/K pickup stuff: a pair of buckets upholstered in handsome gray cloth, split by a large and functional center console. Carpets, seats, and door panels are excellent, with only the headliner showing its age—there’s a little sagging, which isn’t uncommon. The 4-spoke wheel has faux stitching to replicate a leather wrap (nice try, GM) and it frames a full complement of big analog gauges that are all working like they should. Everything was standard on the Pace Truck, so you get things like power windows and locks, working automatic climate control, cruise control, a tilt steering column, and an oddball stereo with most of the controls near the driver, but the cassette player waaaay over there by the passenger. Fog lights were also included with the Pace Truck, integrated into the front air dam for an aggressive look. This truck also features a sliding rear window for comfortable driving on mild days and there’s some storage behind the seats.
All Pace Trucks received a 350 cubic inch V8 with throttle body fuel injection. It’s not a horsepower monster, but it’s torquey and fun and in the relatively lightweight pickup, performance is entertaining. It’s also completely stock, which means no questionable aftermarket parts or amateur mechanics at work. It starts quickly and easily, idles properly, and generally works like it should, and given these trucks’ legendary reliability, this one should run practically forever with proper care. Finishes and markings strongly suggest that it has never seen winter weather, and it’s quite clean under the hood so you know someone cared. It’s backed by GM’s bulletproof 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission which feeds a set of 3.42 gears out back, making it a fantastic cruiser on the highway. Suspension and brakes are standard GM pickup stuff and it rides well enough, although it’s still a half-ton truck, so if you need it to do some work around the house, it’s ready, willing, and able. It appears to have a newer exhaust system with dual outlets in back, and that might just be the original spare hanging out back. 15-inch chrome wheels were standard equipment, with these carrying recent 255/70/15 white-letter radials.
Documentation includes the original owner’s booklets and factory cassette tape still in the wrapper.
We like this truck for a lot of reasons: it’s handsome, it drives well, and its limited-edition look will always make it stand out. These trucks are popular for a reason, and finding an untouched example is not that easy today. If all that appeals to you—not to mention the reasonable price tag—give us a call!
