Build quality is quite good and all the original sheetmetal remains in excellent condition—no major body mods and no thick filler, so it feels right.

Attractive all-Ford build. 100% steel body. Ford Motorsports 302 crate motor with C4 3-speed automatic. Power steering, power disc brakes. Leather interior from a late-model. Upgraded stereo and gauges. A proven cruiser that looks awesome and drives even better!

Finished in dark blue over a gray leather interior, this trim-looking 1947 Ford coupe has a traditional look that will always be in fashion. No dated graphics, no over-done pinstripes, just a clean vintage Ford that gets everything right. It’s an older build that was done right, and for the past 15 or so years, it has been a reliable show partner for one caring owner. Build quality is quite good and all the original sheetmetal remains in excellent condition—no major body mods and no thick filler, so it feels right. You can see that a lot of time went into getting it prepped for paint, because it’s laser-straight, and all the gaps are even. The bumpers were removed and replaced with custom roll pans, and the hood and trunk are shaved, but it still looks like a vintage V8 Ford. Neat details include the flush-mounted power antenna that disappears when it’s down, the subtle marker lights up front, and late-model side mirrors that almost look like they were born there. Traditional touches include blue-dot taillight lenses, but a high-mounted third brake light in the rear window is a good safety feature. Most of the remaining trim is stainless, so it’ll look great practically forever, and the long strip of beltline trim gives the car a long, lean look that’s very appealing.

The gray cloth interior is from a ‘70s Chrysler coupe—yes, it’s probably the rich Corinthian leather of legend. The neat thing is how well it fits in the vintage Ford body, giving you a power driver’s seat, a fold-down armrest, and a full-sized back seat that works for full-sized adults. There’s matching gray carpet on the floor, custom door panels, and painted garnish moldings that blend in nicely. The original dash is full of new gauges from Faria and include all the vitals plus a tach over where the original clock used to live. There’s also a custom 3-spoke steering wheel with a leather-wrapped rim that matches the upholstery, plus a modern AM/FM/CD stereo that still sounds great thanks to extensive sound-deadening materials throughout the body. Thoughtful details include courtesy lights under the dash and in the door panels, little LEDs for the turn signals and hi-beams, and a pair of custom knobs to release the hood and trunk lid. Speaking of the trunk, it’s finished with matching gray carpet and includes a rear-mounted battery box and space-saver spare, just in case.

The engine is a Ford Motorsports 302 cubic inch crate engine, which is a great choice in your Ford rod. It fits neatly, and with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and ceramic-coated headers, it’s torquey and entertaining to drive. There’s a large radiator up front that keeps it cool without any issues and the inner fenders and firewall have been smoothed for a custom look. A few splashes of polished aluminum makes the engine bay sparkle, and service access is easy and parts are plentiful so it’ll be a snap to keep this rod in top health. The transmission is a C4 3-speed automatic that shifts crisply and spins a set of 3.55 gears in the Ford 9-inch rear end. Up front there’s a custom Mustang II crossmember with power rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes, making this car quite easy to handle. Flowmaster mufflers give it a suitably hot rod soundtrack and please note just how clean the floors and rockers really are—this is a 100% solid car. Other details include a transmission cooler, air shocks for the rear suspension, and a gas tank from a late model out back. Red painted steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings are the right choice and carry staggered 195/70/15 front and 235/70/15 rear wide whitewall radials.

Documentation includes a file with maintenance receipts and a manual for the carburetor.

A thoughtfully built street rod that should keep the Ford purists happy. It looks awesome with a traditional vibe yet is comfortable and capable without being over-bearing. That’s a tough balance to strike in any street rod build, but this one gets it exactly right. If that’s your kind of fun, give us a call today!
