You want a fun, unusual summertime car that’s always ready to go, there aren’t many better choices than a convertible made in Japan.

Clean 240SX convertible with all the options. Great-driving RWD sports car. Everything works, drives great, never hit or wrecked, clean CarFAX. Two owners from new. A sure-fire future collectable that’s red hot right now!

We get a lot of guys who like the idea of an old car but not the reality. A vintage MG looks like a lot of fun (and it is!) but you need to be a hands-on owner to really make the most of the experience. That’s why we appreciate cars like this 1993 Nissan 240SX convertible—a fun car that certainly qualifies as a collectable, but without the maintenance needs. You want a fun, unusual summertime car that’s always ready to go, there aren’t many better choices than a convertible made in Japan. Bulletproof reliability combined with easy road manners make the 240SX a winner. Besides, they didn’t make many—when was the last time you saw one? Bright red is certainly the right choice for a sporty, low-slung convertible and the proportions are exactly right. The look is undeniably 90s stylish, but it has aged well with clean lines and a traditional wedge profile that echoes great sports cars of the past. You’ll note that this car wears original paint, which means no surprises waiting underneath, and even the urethane bumper ends are in very good condition with minimal cracking (virtually impossible to avoid after 30 years). There’s also a subtle gray stripe that matches the interior and suggests that this one was a “Limited Edition.” Either way, this is an easy car to like.

The gray cloth interior is a good choice for an open car—cooler than leather and easy to maintain. It’s actually in excellent condition throughout, more proof that this car has led an easy life of summer fun. Even the driver’s seat bolsters are still firm and not worn down from years of use. This car came only one way—loaded—which means you get such niceties as cold A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a good-sounding AM/FM/cassette stereo. From behind the wheel, the car feels surprisingly contemporary, especially with those big, round gauges and low hoodline that gives excellent visibility. The 71,330 miles on the odometer are an accurate reading, and that adds up to only about 2500 miles a year—nice! And in a fit of practicality, Nissan engineers added a back seat that’s actually usable for kids and adults for short trips, so go ahead and have some fun. The fully lined convertible top fits extremely well and seals up nicely, and stows neatly underneath a semi-rigid boot. There’s also a good-sized trunk, making this a great candidate for your next road trip adventure.

The 240 in 240SX refers to the 2.4 liter DOHC inline-4 under the hood that was a staple of the SX from the beginning. It’s torquey and reliable, with proven Japanese engineering so it’s ready to go anytime. The biggish four doesn’t mind revving, although this is more of a grand-touring convertible than a race track menace. Either way, it never seems to put a foot wrong with its rear-wheel-drive layout that makes it a bit of an anomaly among its period competition. The 4-speed automatic shifts cleanly and is always ready to serve up a quick downshift to get you into the fat part of the power curve, and the all-independent suspension gives this car superior ride and handling, even after 30 years. It’s really a lot of fun to drive. You can see just how clean it us underneath, with excellent floors and we believe that’s even the original exhaust system, which has a nice 4-cylinder growl to it. Factory alloy wheels are unmarked and carry 205/60/15 Michelin radials of indeterminate age.

These are unusual cars and you’re going to have trouble finding one in good condition—they were either used up and thrown away or, more recently, turned into drift cars thanks to their rear-wheel-drive handling. This handsome Nissan offers a great combination of comfort, reliability, and performance that’s just right for someone who wants something a little unusual but doesn’t feel like dealing with old car maintenance. Just get in and start having fun! Call today!
