Take a look at that laser-straight bodywork, the sanitary undercarriage, and the very nicely preserved original interior.

Super clean Firebird in great colors. Burly YX-coded 455 cubic inch V8. Nicely documented, including build sheet. Runs and drives very well. An affordable Firebird with the power you want and a fantastic look.

This isn’t a matching-numbers car (it was originally a 350 2-barrel) but that’s not really the point here. Take a look at that laser-straight bodywork, the sanitary undercarriage, and the very nicely preserved original interior. All of those add up to a car that you’ll be pleased to own without the big hood decal upcharge. Finished in Brewster Green with appropriate decals in contrasting colors, it has an upscale, grown-up look that’s more subtle than a lot of its sibilings. And boy, is the bodywork underneath nicely done! Look at the reflections in the sides of this car, the panel gaps, and the shiny hood, because that suggests good money was invested in making this car look its best. There’s no hood scoop to interrupt the Firebird’s clean lines, and the ducktail spoiler out back is the perfect finishing touch. A few bright trim pieces add detail, and they, too, are in excellent condition. Someone invested a lot of money making this car look this good.

We believe the black vinyl interior is mostly original and in very good condition. There’s some slight wear on the driver’s seat, but nothing substantial, and the matching door panels are beautifully preserved. The carpets are probably new, since black just doesn’t age very well, but they’re correct and fit well. The woodgrain applique on the dash is still bright and crisp, and the three-spoke wheel is one of our favorites. The only real demerit is a small popped seam on the passenger seat lower cushion, but a skilled upholsterer should be able to fix it up, or reproduction seat covers are relatively inexpensive. This is a low-option car, so just standard gauges joined by a trio of aftermarket dials under the dash and the factory stereo has been replaced by a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette head unit with Jensen speakers on the rear package shelf. The original headliner is excellent and the trunk is outfitted with a full-sized spare on a matching Rally wheel.

A quick glance at the build sheet reveals that this car originally came with a 350 2-barrel, but at some point a muscular 455 cubic inch V8 took its place. The YX-code on the front of the block suggests a 1972 455, and it has been built with a few smart upgrades like an aluminum intake manifold, 4-barrel carburetor, and a set of long-tube headers that give it a very authoritative rumble. It’s never obnoxious or loud, but this doesn’t sound like a tame 350 anymore. Other details include the chrome air cleaner and a set of Mickey Thompson finned valve covers for a period touch. It starts easily, idles properly, and generally works like it should with a big hit of torque at almost any speed. The TH400 3-speed automatic is also a transplant, but you’ll be glad to have the world’s most durable transmission behind the potent 455. It snaps through the gears without any hiccups, and with what we believe are 2.56 gears out back, it’s a very relaxed cruiser at speed. Please look around underneath at just how clean and solid this F-Body really is, with excellent original floors and rockers and no patching or repairs. Power steering and power front disc brakes are part of the package, and the Flowmaster mufflers give it that distinctive sound. A newer gas tank, recent shocks, and right-sized 215/65/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials round out the list of features.

Documentation includes the original manuals, a build sheet, receipts, and a detailed history of the car’s long-term ownership.

We love this car for all the right reasons: it’s handsome, it drives right, and it’s fun without being over-done. The Trans-Am gets all the attention, but a clean Firebird with serious power under the hood should not be underestimated. This is such a car. Call today!
